UPDATE : The tease seems to have been a casual joke played by the creative directors. It seems that there is going to be quite some time before the next Splinter Cell comes out.

Players have been harking for quite some time to Ubisoft for reviving some of the all-time classics like Rayman, Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell for quite some time now. It appears that Ubisoft might finally relent and give the fans something to talk and discuss about in the weeks to come, as creative director Julian Gerighty had taken to Twitter to say that he was “working on” the next Splinter Cell. He also says “Can’t wait for E3”, signalling that the game is likely to be released at E3.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot asked players “not to hold their breath” last month for a new entry in an older franchise this E3. It seems that they are likely to give quite some screen time this E3 to Ghost Recon Breakpoint, as well as focus on updates for existing games.

Despite the promise of “not expecting” older franchises to make a return, Anno 1800 was indeed published by Ubisoft as the seventh entry in the Anno franchise which descended into the dust after the failure of Anno 2205. Here’s to expecting more old franchises to be revived in the days to come.
