The premise is simple to grasp, Masatora Akutsu, a demon lands on a school on Earth with only one plan in mind: Motivate the residents of hell to conquer the ongoing battle against the angels.
He goes undercover to infiltrate the school and immediately gets smitten by Lily Amane, an adorable girl whose personality is much darker and sadistic than she plans to let on.
Akutsu ends up asking Lily Amane to be the catalyst of motivation amongst the demons, and in a twist of fate, and a lasso of the heavenly chains, gets stupefied and tethered by one of the strongest residents of heaven, the angel, the enemy undercover: Lily Amane. She is on a mission to purify demons but seems to have another plan for Akutsu.
The two nemeses are now bound to each other and on their journey as frenemies. What the journey holds, you may wonder. Guess we’ll only get that answer on 16th January 2024, when the second episode is revealed to roll into our Crunchyroll accounts.
The anime’s first episode adapted from Sawayoshi Azuma’s Manga series doesn’t reveal much of the plot but does a good job of creating a solid introduction to what is yet to unfold. It uses ‘Kawai’ animation and some inappropriate humour to get its target audience entertained and curious about the upcoming episodes.
From the first episode of ‘The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil’, one could view Lily Amane as more clever than foolish, but it’s undeniable that she’s making her enemy dance to her beat, and we’re here for it!
VERDICT
Avid anime watchers, beware! This anime too, might fall prey to the age-old weakness of the Isekai genre: The Lack of Novelty. However, we ought to wait and watch whether there’s hope for this anime to be pulled out of this rite of passage, just like Lily Amane pulled Akutsu into her clutches!
