In a Facebook post recently, developer Red Barrels thanked fans for supporting the Outlast franchise and talked about future plans for the studio.
They started off by addressing DLC concerns for Outlast 2, saying that: “While the first Outlast was made with the idea of a DLC in mind, that was not the case for Outlast 2. We’ve considered many options, but none of them felt appropriate for a DLC. Outlast 2 was created to make you feel like a rat in a maze, without any knowledge of what’s outside the maze.”
The team is also interested in working on an Outlast 3, however that will come later “at some point”; they’re currently working on a “distinct” new game set in the Outlast experience and apparently it’s “something fans have been asking for”. They also confirmed that it won’t be a sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but will be set in the same universe.
Oh and Outlast comics, anyone? These cover events across both Outlast titles.
Another interesting tidbit is that the indie studio is bringing both Outlast games to Nintendo’s hybrid system. The games are planned for release on the Switch sometime in early 2018. Are you ready to get spooked on the go?
