Dark Light

We got a lot of ‘odlschool’ first person shooters in recent times, ones that are made on modern engines but featuring classic 90’s gameplay and aesthetics. But what happens when you take a 20+ year old graphics engine and make a new FPS using it?

The answer is Ion Maiden, a spiritual successor to Duke Nukem 3D, Blood and Shadow Warrior, made using an updated version of Ken Silverman’s Build Engine. 3D Realms and Voidpoint have announced that their old-school first-person shooter will release in early 2019 and will feature a classic fast-paced multiplayer mode. Those who purchased the game during Early Access will have access to a multiplayer beta before the launch.

We previewed the game a few months before, and came back with overwhelming positive response. As of now, Ion Maiden is on Steam’s Early Access and only features a short preview campaign showcasing how well the engine and gameplay design holds up.

3D Realms also revealed a beautiful, limited edition big-boxed founder’s edition available for pre-order

Hail to the queen, baby!
