The game is a direct sequel to the seventh Resident Evil game, which sold extremely well in the long run. It is also worth mentioning of a reputable Capcom insider Dusk Golem that claimed Resident Evil 8 will be the longest game on the RE Engine.
Resident Evil 8 is scheduled to release on PC, Xbox Series X and PS5 in 2021, and takes place a few years after the events of its predecessor. The game sees the return of Ethan Winters, who has relocated to Europe with his wife, Mia, although things soon take a sinister turn after their paths cross once more with Chris Redfield.
