According to a report by Geeks Worldwide, WB Montreal’s next Batman game is a “soft reboot” of the 10-year-old Arkham series. Sources close to GWW have disclosed that a direct sequel to Arkham Knight was in consideration, with Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghoul’s son Damian taking up the mantle. But that idea was soon scrapped in favor of kickstarting a cohesive DC universe.
The first title in this new series will most likely be about Court of Owls, the secret society from Gotham. It will feature co-op and the entire Batfamily (Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl) will be playable.
Shortly after it’s release this Fall, it will be followed up by a next-gen DC game from Rocksteady Studios. What comes after that is still not concrete. But sources tell GWW that a next-gen Superman game is also in the works by another studio. An old Superman concept art was making the rounds on the internet a few days ago which is rumored to be from a failed pitch by Rocksteady. This is probably a totally different game by a separate studio.
Rumors have been running rampant about the next Batman game for a long while. Eyes were on Warner Bros to reveal it this E3. But, with E3 getting canceled this year, WB might reveal it on another occasion.
We just hope that WB doesn’t stick too closely with the DC canon right now and focus on their original continuity, much like the Arkham games.
