Mario Kart Tour.
Nintendo’s latest racing game, Mario Kart Tour, will be available on mobile devices tomorrow, September 25th. Featuring the cast and crew of the Mario series, the latest Mario Kart spin-off is set to release on iOS and Android. Coming hot off the release of Dr. Mario World, Nintendo once again seeks to capture the “gacha” market with the use of free-to-play elements and summoning rare characters.
What’s in the New Mario Kart?
The upcoming Mario Kart game will feature characters and stages, new and old, from the series. In addition to classic Mario favorites, this will include the debut of Peachette, from New Super Mario Bros. U, and the return of Diddy Kong.
Mario Kart Tour’s tracks will feature old favorites, like SNES Rainbow Road and Waluigi Pinball. Plus you’ll find some new tracks based on real world locales. Whether it’s a Tour de France or a trip through New York, Mario and crew are busting through the real world!

Keep in mind that, as a free-to-play title, Mario Kart Tour will use microtransactions, offering players incentives to purchase characters with real money. However, Nintendo’s track record of generosity means you will never be forced to pay for completion. As Fire Emblem Heroes was their first and most successful gacha game, Nintendo has continued to provide quality gacha games without forced microtransactions in games like Dragalia Lost and Dr. Mario World.
Finally, Nintendo appears to be reintroducing the Mission Mode from Mario Kart DS. While details are scant, this screenshot shows a stack of Goombas from what appears to be a side mode. Check it out on Nintendo’s Twitter.
Is that…a pyramid of Goombas smack dab in the middle of the track? That HAS to be a traffic violation. It's on you to clear them out. The more Goombas you topple, the bigger bonus you get! Clear the streets of pesky fungi on September 25th! #MarioKartTour pic.twitter.com/PbkpHwxC34
