Dark Light

Eight years after its original release, Warhorse Studios has surprise-released a massive Next-Gen Update for current-gen consoles.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Dubbed Patch 1.9.7, this update finally brings the cult-classic medieval RPG up to modern standards, offering a “Performance Leap” that bridges the gap between the original title and its recently released sequel.

Bohemia in 60 FPS and 4K

The most significant change is the move away from the original console’s 30 FPS cap. Players can now explore the lush forests and bustling towns of Bohemia at 60 FPS. On the visual front, the update introduces:

  • 4K Resolution Support: Upscaled 4K on high-end consoles, providing a much crisper image than the blurry 1080p of the previous generation.
  • Ultra Quality Visuals: Graphical settings have been bumped to the equivalent of the PC “High” configuration, featuring high-resolution textures and improved assets.
  • FSR Upscaling: Integration of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution ensures a smooth, stable frame rate even during intense combat.
  • Technical Fixes: Long-standing community issues, such as the rare “Siege” quest infinite loading screen, have been officially patched.

Free Upgrade and Game Pass Availability

In a move lauded by the community, this is a completely free update for anyone who already owns the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version of the game.

  • Xbox Game Pass: The enhanced version has also shadowdropped onto Xbox Game Pass, allowing subscribers to play the definitive console version immediately.
  • Save Transfers: Players can seamlessly transfer their “playlines” from the previous generation to the new native versions. Note that on PlayStation 5, trophies do not “auto-pop” from the PS4 list, effectively offering a fresh set of challenges for completionists.

New Content and Rewards

Beyond technical polish, Patch 1.9.7 introduces Deep Silver Account integration. By linking an account, players receive a unique Horse Caparison (saddle skin) to dress their steed, available in the player stash after the prologue. Additionally, new voice-over options for Czech and Japanese have been added, alongside improved localization for several other languages.

For physical media collectors, a new physical Royal Edition for current-gen consoles is scheduled for release on May 15, 2026
