Nvidia showcased their 3 GB GTX 1060 at a Chinese press conference and according to Overclock3d it looks like a GTX 1050 Ti than a traditional GTX 1060.
The GPU is simply not GTX 1060 with the same performance. It provides 10% less performance when compared to it’s elder sibling, which is a result of lesser core count.
Apparently the only the number of cores is being changed for the 3 GB version and all other specifications have remained the same. It is a cut down of the GP 106 chip and will have 1152 CUDA cores instead of 1280, with 48 ROPs and Texture Units amounting to 72.
It has a Base/Boost clock of 1518MHz/1733MHz. The 3GB version retains the 192-bit memory interface, 8GHz GDDR5 memory and TDP of 120W. Considering the TDP is rated similar, we could see very close performance to its brother. On the back, we have 1x HDMI 2.0b, 1x DL-DVI and 3x DisplayPort 1.4. Unfortunately, no price tag was revealed during the show.
According to me, the pricing of this card will matter a lot in it’s selling. If it is 200$, it’ll be a tough sell, considering that the RX 480 is in the same price range and also has 1 GB of extra VRAM, but the 1060 GB performs just toe to toe with the RX 480 and if the 3 GB version is priced at 200$, and performing at 10% less will surely mean that the RX 480 outperforms it, and people will sway the AMD side. Let’s see what happens.
