Thanks to an accidental listing on the Hong Kong Playstation Store, Far Cry 6 has been revealed ahead of the Ubisoft Forward! Set to be released on February 18, 2021, the game will be coming on current-gen consoles like the Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC as well as next-gen consoles. PS4 game owners will also be able to upgrade it to the Playstation 5 version for free – the same is expected for the Xbox Series X.
According to the page description, which as of now has been taken down, Far Cry 6 is set in the fictional country of Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time. Cuba, anyone? The country is ruled by the dictator Anton Castillo played by Breaking Bad’s Gus Fring – Giancarlo Esposito. The despot is intent on restoring his nation back to its former glory by any means, with his son, Diego, following in his bloody footsteps. Their ruthless oppression has ignited a revolution.
You play as Dani Rojas, a local Yaran and guerrilla fighter who dreams of liberating the nation. The game can be played in offline single-player and 2-player online multiplayer mode. You fight Anton’s troops in what is touted to be the largest Far Cry playground to date – across dense jungles, lush beaches, and the quaint capital city of Yara, Esperenza.
You have access to makeshift weapons, a diverse motley of vehicles, and Amigos, the new Fangs for Hire, to burn the tyrannical regime to the ground.
On an interesting side note, Giancarlo Esposito is the second character from the Breaking Bad universe to feature in the Far Cry series. Michael Mando played the character of Vaas in 2012’s breakout hit Far Cry 3 and currently portrays the character of Nacho Varga in the part-prequel part-spinoff Better Call Saul.
The game also listed two pre-order bonuses – a state-of-the-art Discos Locos weapon and a skin for Chorizo (A character? Vehicle? Pet? Our guess is no better than yours!).
