2019’s breakout hit RPG Disco Elysium is getting a TV series adaptation. Developer ZA/UM has partnered with production company dj2 Entertainment to create this show.

The TV series, like the game, will also be set in the universe of “Sacred and Terrible Air”, the 2013 novel by Robert Kurvitz. In the video game, you step into the shoes of a veteran police detective who is struggling with his memory. He works on solving a murder mystery in a town on the verge of being torn apart by warring political factions. The game launched to widespread critical acclaim for its stellar writing – four wins at the Game Awards, three BAFTAs, and also named one of the best games of the decade by Time Magazine.

ZA/UM lead writer Helen Hindpere commented, ““We’re so gratified at the response Disco Elysium has received, and very happy to be teaming with dj2 to expand the franchise for other media and new audiences”.

The CEO and founder Dmitri M. Johnson said, “Disco Elysium is a phenomenal property with an expansive world and unlimited potential. The dj2 team is truly thrilled about this extraordinary opportunity to be part of it all.” dj2 Entertainment has recently been investing quite a lot into video games taking the TV or movie jump – they co-produced 2020’s Sonic The Hedgehog which is currently the highest grossing feature film based on a video game. They are also executive producing television shows based on the games Sleeping Dogs and Echo.

The wait might be unbearably long though for fans – no writer is currently attached to the Disco Elysium show and it also hasn’t been picked up by a TV network on online streaming service.

The game is also currently on a generous 25% discount on Steam owing to the Summer Sale.
