After delaying the Switch version of the highly anticipated 3D platformer that released back in April (for PC, PS4 & XB1) to mixed reception, developer Playtonic have finally announced that Yooka-Laylee will launch on Nintendo’s console on December 14th, 2017 (with pre-orders starting a week before, on the 7th).
Since the Switch port is handled by Playtonic themselves and not Team17 (publisher for the game, who also ported it to PS4 & XB1), the devs have promised that it will be the best version among all four thanks to the delay (caused by issues with the Unity engine) and some help from Nintendo and Unity themselves. It will include all previously released updates and improvements as well as exclusive features like individual Joycon control-scheme for minigames and a custom achievements system.
They also released a trailer which shows the Switch version in action and it looks pretty close to the other versions; watch it below.
Let’s hope this game does well on the system especially considering facts like the delay putting many people off, the game being a disappointment for a good amount of fans and not to mention that Super Mario Odyssey – another game from the same genre which was critically acclaimed – is also available on the Switch.
