A series skeleton gif tweets from Infinity Ward Senior Communications Manager Ashton Williams over the past few weeks was interpreted by fans of the Call of Duty as the silent announcement for the long-rumoured sequel to 2013’s CoD: Ghosts. Given that the gifs are highly reminiscent to Ghosts’ signature insignia, this speculation is not really much of a stretch.
However, in a forum thread on ResetEra that talks about the teases, Kotaku writer, and walking rumour mill, Jason Schreier has said that it “ain’t Ghosts 2!”.
Given Schreier’s track record for being a reliable source of rumours, Ghost fans may want not want to get their hopes up. The other theory is that the gifs reference the character of Ghost from Modern Warfare 2 and the upcoming game might be a prequel focused around the long-dead character.
