During a pre-recorded press conference livestream, WWE and 2K Games have announced “The Phenomenal One” as the cover athlete for the upcoming WWE 2K19 video game. The game will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 9. But those who pre-order the game will get it on October 5.
AJ Styles, who successfully retained his WWE Championship title at today’s Money in the Bank, made the announcement.
“As a hardcore gamer and ambassador of everything it means to ‘Never Say Never’ in both my professional and personal life, it is a dream come true to be selected as the WWE 2K19 cover Superstar,” Styles said.
Additionally, 2K announced the WWE 2K19 Million Dollar Challenge, where the participant must face and beat “The Phenomenal One” himself to win a hefty cash amount of $1 million.
However, to do so, players must fulfill these four tasks (via WWE):
- Players must beat a to-be-announced new mode in the game.
- Then, players can submit a promotional video proving they can beat AJ Styles in WWE 2K19.
- From there, four semifinalists will be selected for a semifinal round of competition.
- One player will then earn the chance to compete against AJ Styles one-on-one in WWE 2K19.
Well, sounds fairly easy, right? I mean how can a pro-wrestler who barely gets time to play games can beat today’s experienced gamers. But hey, Styles says, “I’ll be practicing. I’m not going to make it easy for them.” Regardless, it’s gonna be a fun stuff to watch.
2K Games also announced two different editions of the game: WWE 2K19 Deluxe Edition – comes with a copy of the game with special packaging, access to Season Pass, Pre-Order and Collector’s Edition digital content; WWE 2K19 Collector’s Edition – everything that comes with the Deluxe Edition plus exclusive collectibles, and limited-edition WWE SuperCard content.
Details about the gameplay, graphics and pretty much everything game-related has yet to be revealed, though 2K promises to drop more details this summer, probably in-before or during WWE’s SumerSlam PPV.
