Just upgraded your PC for the latest few games? Feel that the best AAA games will come from Ubisoft? For Honor,Ghost Recon Wildlands seem good to try out? If you’re in India, you would think otherwise, now, though. This is because the prices for the games vaulted steeply to a point where its inaccessible for most people.

The price of For Honor was 1799, and Ghost Recon Wildlands was 1799, while the deluxe editions used to cost 2499 and the gold editions used to cost 3999 each. The new prices for the games are 3499 for the standard edition, 4199 for the deluxe edition and 5999 for the gold edition(all figures in Indian rupees).

No one knows the exact reason for the steep hike in prices. There are two very likely explanations. One is that a fair amount of tax has been levied on any company selling online goods or services in India by the Government. Since both Uplay and Steam are retailing online in India, the extra tax is added to the price. (Since Steam has partnered with Novaplay for retailing in India, it makes it eligible to pay taxes to the Government of India, since Novaplay is an Indian company.) The second explanation is that Ubisoft has likely driven up prices to the global prices, which to do away with regional pricing (which is a abused by people all over the world to get cheap games, as they tend to buy from regions with a price lower than theirs using a VPN). If that is indeed the case, it will be an unpopular move, and hit Ubisoft’s fanbase in India pretty hard, who are waiting eagerly for the release of the two games, and saving eagerly for buying them.

If the actual reason for the rise in prices is the tax from the Government of India, it will be a huge setback to the Digital India mission of the Government, who is trying to prove India as an ideal ground for foreign investment. If Ubisoft has driven up prices to prevent people from trying to take advantage of India’s low prices, it will be an unpopular move for the Indian gamers who are eager to buy the games (and many who have been saving for months). The move will hit the popularity of Ubisoft in India hard, which is already in a poor condition because of the poor peer-to-peer connectivity implemented for multiplayer in For Honor and Ghost Recon Wildlands (the average speed of Indian internet is much lesser  than the global average, which Ubisoft should have kept in mind before implementing the connectivity in the game).

No one has any actual idea why the hike occurred, and we will get back to you as soon as we get a response from Steam or Ubisoft on this issue.
