The award-winning Torchlight series is set to return to PC and consoles next year with the recently announced Torchlight: Frontiers. The title will be created by newly formed Echtra, a two-year-old studio comprised of a number of developers from Runic Games, including Max Schaefer.

The trailer shows a commander delivering a speech to her troops, warning them of goblins, monsters, zombies, and all sorts of other beasts which pose a threat to their civilization. The brightly lit trailer boasts a lighthearted art style which gives its characters a cartoon-like aesthetic. With her soldiers riled up for the battle ahead, they charge headlong towards a portal.

Torchlight: Frontiers is set to take place in a large shared world allowing players to take on enemy waves together. Pets will also be a prominent feature; supplying support as players dispatch foes throughout their journey. However, the trailer doesn’t show any actual gameplay. There’s currently no way of knowing if it will use the same classic isometric viewpoint as the earlier Torchlight titles or exactly how the game will play, but more details are set to be announced at a later date.

Torchlight: Frontiers is due for release next year. Although the timeframe is still quite wide, we do know that it will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You can view the announcement video below:
