Obsidian Entertainment is teasing a return to their sci-fi space opera RPG, The Outer Worlds. Released back in October 2019, Obsidian managed to catch lightning in a bottle yet again just like its previous games – Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, Alpha Protocol and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II. The game managed to garner a loyal fanbase right off the bat who loved every bit of its sarcasm, humor, romantic storylines, interesting companions and a glue-you-to-the-seats story.
Greetings employees of Halcyon,
The Board is pleased to announce that we have been able to acquire a portion of The Outer Worlds website! Feel free to take an additional 5-minute break today to visit the website, you've earned it! 🚀✨https://t.co/g3ADukdpfw— The Outer Worlds (@OuterWorlds) July 20, 2020
In a tweet, Obsidian teased a DLC/expansion – eager fans who visited the linked page were greeted with a special message from Spacer’s Choice. Armed with a charming and catchy corporate jingle, you get to see advertisements for Adrena Time – a drug that gives a movement and attack buff in the game (and a serious crash effect!).
Show your boss that you are prime,
because you take Adrena-Time!
Some of the words that we noticed that haven’t been mentioned in the lore are:
- Gorgon – is it a planet? Some other location – like a lab?
- Xenocyte – is it a new alien biological form?
On their official forum back in December 2019, Social Media Manager Shyla had talked about Obsidian’s future plans with The Outer Worlds – a DLC story expansion. Is this going to be the first of many to come? Right now, all we can do is wait and watch!
Microsoft had acquired Obsidian back in 2018 and it became a part of their expansive Xbox Game Studios. The Outer Worlds, at that point in time, was already being published by Take Two’s Private Division. On the PC front, the game was available on the Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and the Xbox Game Pass. Perhaps, we can expect the launch of the game on Steam soon too.
Obsidian is rumored to also be working on their next AAA RPG with a fantasy setting. Expect more details about the unannounced game at the Xbox Games Showcase on July 23!
