Even though The Division 2 was a major step-up in terms of delivering a cohesive campaign compared to the first game, it’s still an online multiplayer game at the core and thus leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to the story.  However, it seems that the developers are open to making a single player experience within The Division universe if there is a market for it.

A few days ago, The Division 2 designer Tim Spencer talked about an idea for a spin-off game that would star an agent trying to get back to his family after having been sent to New York during the SHD blackout from the fall of DC. According to him, none of the stories have explored what a Division agent sacrifices, and what they go through mentally.

“When you think about it: it’s a pretty dark/epic thing – there’s huge opportunity to tell some incredible stories there”, explained Tim.

Creative Director Julian Gerighty retweeted Tim Spencer’s idea, asking players if they would be interested in something like this. If you ask me, done right, a story-driven spin-off will do lots to flesh out the Division universe more than any shoehorned live-action film.
