Dark Light

It might be the end of an era and the beginning of the downfall of Rainbow Six Siege as we know it. Siege might be losing its poster boy and one of the main icons that helped drive the growth of the game’s esports scene. Niclas ‘ Pengu ‘ Mouritzen, one of the best streamers and professional players for Rainbow Six Siege, has officially announced his retirement from the esports scene.

In his post, Pengu is empathically clear that he is stepping down from his stint as a professional Rainbow Six Siege player. It is not yet clear whether he would continue his stint as a streamer or shift to another game. The official live stream (as well as the Youtube announcement video) has also seen Pengu mention that he has been granted permission by Ubisoft to co-stream the North American League (NAL) and European League (EUL) for the 2021 season.

Pengu has been grinding in the game since his stint in 2016 as part of PENTA Esports. He had even worked as part of G2 Esports initially as a streamer and then as a professional player. Being part of the winning lineup that had dominated Rainbow Six esports for years, Pengu is a name known by almost every Rainbow Six player out there that plays ranked. If there’s one professional player or streamer that one would definitely get to know about within the first few hundred hours of playing Siege, it would definitely be Pengu.

It’s indeed difficult to imagine a Rainbow Six Siege esports scene without players like Pengu. However, it is true that he hasn’t ruled out retirement from full-time streaming or professional commentary in the future – so it would not be wise to count him out just yet.
