Mass Effect is one of the bigger releases this year from developers Bioware and publisher EA. Bioware have made some changes to the formula- made the game more open, replaced the paragon and renegade systems etc. The gameplay also seems to have been taken up a notch, and all in all I am moderately excited for the game (In rememberance of 3’s ending). In the meanwhile, EA has revealed the system requirements for the game, and here they are:
Minimum Requirements:
OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5 3570 or AMD FX-6350
MEMORY: 8 GB RAM
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB, AMD Radeon 7850 2GB
HARD DRIVE: At least 55 GB of free space
DIRECTX: DirectX 11
Having a look at the minimum requirements, it pretty much is standard this gen- an i5/FX-6000 series CPU, 55 GB HDD, 8 GB RAM and 2 GB VRAM etc etc. The surprising aspect here is that they are suggesting an i5-3570 rather than a i5-2500/2400 which has been in the listing for most minimum system requirements this gen, whereas on the AMD side the FX6350 is as good as ever. They are using the Frostbite engine, so I do expect it to be optimized very well . As for lower system requirements, I would say that a quad core might be necessary to handle the game and you might even get away with 6 GBs of RAM, unless you don’t like microstuttering. For the GPU, if you are running at 900p or 720p, the game should run on practically any GPU that has a DDR5 memory and supports DX11.
Recommended Requirements:
OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD FX-8350
MEMORY: 16 GB RAM
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB, AMD RX 480 4GB
HARD DRIVE: At least 55 GB of free space
DIRECTX: DirectX 11
The recommended requirements don’t surprise me all that much much, because again- an i7/FX-8000 series, 16 GB RAM, GTX 10XX/RX 4XX GPUs, 4 GBs of VRAM has been standard Recommended Specs for most game this gen. So if you own something like a GTX 970 or GTX 980 or an R9 290/390, I think you’ll be just fine at Ultra settings. As for GPUs like the RX 470 or GTX 1050Ti, you can expect them to perform at around 35-50 fps with everything cranked up to the maximum, though 60 can be attained by reducing a fe settings. For the CPU, I do think that an overclocked i5 from either the 4th or the 6th gen will do just fine.
Apart from that, it doesn’t seem like Nvidia is meddling with their gameworks, so I do expect stable performance on both, the green and the red side. So what do you think about the requirements? Let us know in the comments below.
