Just one week after launch, the Gothic 1 Remake has sold 500,000 copies across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S , a milestone that signals a triumphant return for one of PC gaming’s most beloved cult classics. Developer Alkimia Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic announced the figures alongside a note of gratitude to the dedicated fanbase that has kept the Gothic franchise alive for over 25 years.
Player numbers on Steam have been equally striking. On June 7th, the game hit a peak of nearly 78,000 concurrent players, a number that reflects both the nostalgia and newfound interest.
The original Gothic, released in 2001, earned a devoted following despite its unconventional controls and steep learning curve, and any remake attempting to preserve that identity while making it accessible carries a particular weight of expectation.
Both studios were quick to frame the launch figures as a new beginning. Alkimia Interactive has committed to ongoing support and improvements in the weeks and months ahead, a message likely aimed at players who have flagged rough patches in their reviews alongside their enthusiasm.
