Dark Light

Celebrating it’s 10 year anniversary this month (yesterday to be exact), PlayStation Plus adds a bonus game to its AAA lineup of July’s freebies. If you felt left out last month owing to the FPS heavy lineup, rejoice for you might find something to enjoy this month.

NBA 2K20
Developer: Visual Concepts | Publisher: 2K

Need I say more? Alright fine.
2K continues to redefine what’s possible in sports gaming with NBA 2K20, featuring best in class graphics & gameplay, groundbreaking game modes, and unparalleled player control and customization. That’s what the blurb says anyway. Hey, it’s another 2K basketball title, what do you want from me?

Rise of the Tomb Raider
Developer: Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, Feral Interactive | Publisher: Square Enix, Feral Interactive

Though it’s not the latest in the franchise, Rise is still a great game to grab if you don’t have it already. You play as Lara Croft as she uncovers an ancient mystery – the mythological Lost City of Kitezh – that places her in the crosshairs of a ruthless organization known as Trinity. If you’ve played any of the new Tomb Raiders, you know what to expect: a mix of Uncharted-like platforming, environmental puzzles, fun exploration, guerilla combat with crafting elements, and of course, tomb raiding.
Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider trilogy, though they all blend together a little in my head, have a fond place in my heart because even though they don’t do anything exceptionally well (except hair physics and beautiful visuals), they offer a great, solid, and enjoyable package. There’s a lot to love here for sure.

Erica
Developer: Flavourworks | Publisher: Sony Entertainment

The bonus game, Erica, is a PlayStation exclusive released just last year, where you play as the titular Erica, a brave young lady plagued with nightmares of her father’s murder. It’s a choice-driven live-action thriller in which you’ll have to delve into the traumatic events of Erica’s past in order to unearth the shocking truth behind the devastating tragedy.
In this feature-length cinematic experience that merges Hollywood-level production values with engaging gameplay, you make key choices to explore the branching narrative paths of the story to uncover multiple endings. Intriguing.

So those are the free games you can expect to grab this month. Excited? Disappointed? Meh’d? Let us know in the comments below.
