Another day, another leaked game for the PS5. According to neogaf, JAPAN Studio, Sony’s oldest first-party studio might be working on an ambitious AAA game set in space for PS5.
Rumor has it that the game in question is veteran developer Tsutomu Kouno‘s “unnamed space game” that was first leaked way back in 2014 by reddit user Ruin4r as a PS4 exclusive. The other games listed along with it were God of War, The Last of Us Part 2 and Days Gone, all of which were proven to be true. To add to the leaker’s credibility, he was the only individual who leaked the reveal of a Shadow of the Colossus remake at E3 2017.
Meanwhile, SIE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, who during an interview with Greg Miller and Colin Moriarty at E3 2015, told them that “Japan Studio is now producing a really great project that I’m really excited about” which was proven to be a different IP from Gravity Rush 2.
We also got records of key industrial personnel talking about this mystery game in the following years, such as Japan Studio producer Teruyuki Toriyama, marketing staff Yasuhiro Kitao, Famitsu’s Katsuhiko Hayashi, etc.
In 2017 Sony filed for a new trademark for the IP RaySpace which is believed to be the same space game in development at Japan Studio. The title was originally supposed to be showcased at a major event in 2018 but that didn’t happen. The title was then rescheduled to be revealed in the next year, but that too was canceled. This means that either the title was canceled or it would be redesigned to be released on PS5, similar to Horizon Zero Dawn 2.
That’s not all. ResetEra user KatharsisT, one of the main source behind the recent Silent Hill rumors revealed that there’s another secret project in the works at Japan Studio that’s going to be revealed soon, possibly at the PS5 event on June 4.
So despite a lot of “what ifs” in the post, we may see RaySpace get revealed at the PS5 event along with upcoming exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn 2.
