Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak the real-time strategy computer game and the prequel to the original Homeworld (released way back in 1999) is finally available on Steam for Windows PC.

Desert of Kharak will work as a backstory for Rachel S’jet, one of the major character in the Homeworld saga. This will also be the first time, when the game will actually shows the character faces in addition to their voices. The game will offer a single player and an online multiplayer option where you can complete objectives and rise through the leader-boards.

Homeworld: Desert Of Kharak will also feature massive environments including dune seas, deep craters, and vast, hostile canyons. Players will control their fleets and make strategic and tactical decisions to put their army in the best attacking or defensive positions.

This latest addition to the Homeworld series is developed by Gearbox, after they bought the IP right from THQ way back in 2013. Since then, Gearbox has already released a Homeworld Remastered Collection contained the remastered version of both Homeworld and Homeworld 2. So this would be the first game that Gearbox would have made for the franchise from scratch.

There is a niche fan following for the Homeworld brand, and while I had missed out on the game when it was initially launched, I am sure there are a lot of gamers out there who want to get their hands on another Homeworld game. Given Gearbox’s recent track record, I don’t think Homeworld: Desert of Kharak would be so bad.
