Massively multiplayer 60-player party game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has hit it out of the park! British video game developer Mediatonic and publisher Devolver Digital launched their game on Steam and PS4 on August 4, and their servers instantly got swarmed by players from across the globe! 1.5 million individual players tried to play the game in the first 24 hours of launch, and immediately caused the servers to go down under.

Fall Guys has turned out to be the next step in evolution for Battle Royale – fatigued players are joining in on this exciting new spin on the genre that incorporates elements from famous television game shows like Takeshi’s Castle and Wipeout. Some might attribute the high numbers to Playstation Plus subscribers, who received the game for free as part of the August 2020 lineup; but the game also peaked at 82k players on Steam! The game has been a big hit and gathered over 200k concurrent viewers on Twitch since the beta and has skyrocketed to #1, and is getting a Twitch Rivals competitive event soon!

Gamers who pre-purchased the game on Steam received an exclusive Gordon Freeman Headcrab outfit. PC and PS4 players got their hands on a Week One bonus costume of the Big Bad Wolf. The game has two paid DLCs out now – a Collector’s Pack and a Fast Food Costume Pack.

The team has been working hard to bump up server capacity to handle the ever-increasing load and has promised a patch following player feedback. There is also a major update in the works which will include new levels, costumes and features. The release date for the update has not been announced yet.

There might be exciting collaborations down the road with CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077 and the Witcher franchise, and also with Bandai Namco’s Dragonball characters!
