Dead Space didn’t just die, it was murdered. But the legacy of the genre-defining survival game lives on through other projects. Negative Atmosphere is one such example. Being developed by a very small team at Sun Scorched Studios lead by creator Calvin Parsons, Negative Atmosphere is a spiritual successor to Dead Space and it might just be the one we need right now.
Calvin has shared a new video of Negative Atmosphere, showing off its dark corridors eerie atmosphere. and This video is real-time gameplay footage of the EGX REZZED 2019 Demo, which was played by over 1500 people last week at EGX REZZED Tobacco Dock, London. According to the creator, the gameplay footage that is showcased here is the result of 5 months of hard work, and all content that is shown here is not representative of the final product.
Negative Atmosphere is set in a universe in the midst of a cold war, in which A.I has been achieved via the use of organic processing cores, you play as a 49-year-old ex-combat medic called Samuel Edwards, aboard the long-range cargo and haulage ship the TRH Rusanov, after a mysterious sickness spreads across the ship causing all the robots and personnel to mutate and deform into hideous creatures that are hell-bent on the destruction of all the organisms around them. You must escape, fighting your way through your former crewmates, rogue and sentient artificial constructs and the environmental hazards the Rusanov presents. As you progress throughout the game, your mental state will deteriorate and the hallucinations will set in.
The game features a limited ammo economy, dynamic level events – TBA-, a vast assortment of melee and projectile weaponry, drones and robots which can be fought or hacked, a non-invasive stealth system, zero-g movement, holographic world space UI – with an ECG heart rate monitor on the back which changes in speed and colour as your health deteriorates, a dynamic damage system – your character gets visually changed with blood stains, scars, open wounds, dismemberment etc, as your health decreases – and much much more to be revealed in the demo.
The developers hope to get the attention of a publisher through the gameplay footage or to get the game featured on a crowdfunding platform for further development. They have even set up a Patreon so that interested parties can directly help the development of the game.
Well, being the big Dead Space fans that we are, Negative Atmosphere now has the official Indian Noob seal of approval (yes, it’s a thing now). We hope to see more of the game in the near future!
