It was expected that CD Project Red’s highly anticipated release, Cyberpunk 2077, would be exclusive on it’s Digital Distribution Platform, GOG, to boost their revenue, but, it seems like the consumer friendly developers have decided to stick to Steam, to ensure the reliability of their fans.
In a presentation given at the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar, a conversation between Kiciński and CD Projekt Red’s CFO Piotr Nielubowicz beginning at the 3:15:43 mark in the video below, it was revealed that the highly anticipated game will make its debut on Steam. During the address, the developer’s executives discuss the firm’s origins, its growth, and its current assets, such as GOG, The Witcher franchise, Gwent, and, of course, Cyberpunk 2077, stating that CD Projekt Red won’t favor GOG as the sole location for the release of any of its games, including the upcoming RPG, in order to not alienate fans.
Although GOG exclusivity might have improved their profit per sale, Steam ensures wider availability of the game throughout the world due to it’s user friendly UI and the plethora of payment methods it accepts. Earlier, it was confirmed by the organizers that the CD Project Red would be attending E3 2018. After the immense success of Witcher 3, it would be interesting to see how CD Project Red’s upcoming title turns out to be.
