In an interview with Assassin’s Central, Ashraf Ismail, director of Assassin’s Creed: Origins, revealed that the game will feature 3 levels of difficulty – easy, normal and difficult – with which it seeks to be accessible to casual gamers, and a challenge for the hardcore ones. Best of all, it is a flexible system, so you can change the difficulty at any time.
“Some people play for the historic context, some people for the narrative, some for the gameplay, and what we felt was by going deeper into the gameplay challenge of the game we’re feeding one part of the audience, but not others so it was a natural step for us to think ‘well, let’s give difficulty settings,” the creative said. “If you really want that very difficult challenge you can set the game to a harder setting,” continues Ismail. “We’ve seen situations where people have asked ‘y’know I want the game to stay at a normal, balanced difficulty but I’m having difficulty with this boss or this moment so can I switch?’ So yes we allow it to switch dynamically.”
Ismail detailed that, when changing to an easier difficulty, there will be still combat scenarios, simply that these will not be so complicated or aggressive. So, those who simply want to explore and experience Egypt will have to wait until the educational update of Assassin’s Creed: Origins.
Assassin’s Creed: Origins will debut on October 27 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC
