Dark Light

Gaming for a lot of people is about escapism. Medieval times, futuristic setting, psychological fantasies. When we play games, we like to get lost.

Sometimes however we wonder WHAT IF? What if we lived in Los Santos. What if COD laws applied to our universe. What if? Sometimes we just can’t help ourselves from thinking how easy/awesome our life would be if one of the video game’s rule applied in real life. Today we sit down and take a look at 8 of them.

1. License To Kill

Just walk past him carrying a rocket launcher, he will never notice

Now who wouldn’t like to carry a weapon and kill anyone who even brushes you the wrong way. Well that’s not possible in real life (unless you are in America). In games however; you can kill anyone you please without hesitation and hassle. Nothing stops you when in GTA or The Elder Scrolls you go on a killing spree killing everyone you encounter. NPC, Cops, Guards; you slay them all. Especially college students, all would be running behind teachers and HOD’s with guns blazing.  And once your blood lust is over, all you have to do is hide and wait for the guards to stop looking for you. This is obviously impossible in real life. You won’t be able to finish off 3 people, before you are branded as a serial killer. And no matter how long you hide in a corner, the moment someone sees your face in public, it adios amigo. Sheesh!!!

2. Pocket Dimensions

We may fail to carry around just an AK-47 in our city but in most of the games we carry enough ranged weapons to wipe out an entire country. We always wonder where the weapons are being kept. Let’s take an example, Max Payne in his second installment carries all sorts of guns, including shot-guns, rifles, SMGs and even Pistols. We seriously wonder whether the law of “Everything that occupies space has mass” even holds true. We all know that he isn’t a transformer which can store guns in different parts of the body. On top of that he wears a normal suit and trousers, so where do all the weapons fit? Well this question will remain unanswered till the formation of the next universe. Unanswered or not, I would definitely like to have such deep pockets, so I can check into airports and save myself some baggage fees.

3. Cop Flop

Living in Los Santos is so much more fun

In video games Police are like “The Sacrificial Lambs”, which we kill when we want to. Cops in games are generally easy to tackle and there are no police records in games. Or if there are, they are left in the public for us to destroy them. If you had raised half the level of hell in real life that you raise in GTA, I assure you that 5 star cop rating is not going to go away even when you check out from the hospital.

4. Life’s A Music

You know you want some
You know you want some

Many a times games have just the right tune that complement’s the on-screen action, which gives us goosebumps and the thrill of the game. And of course, if we don’t feel like hearing music, we can switch it off with the click of a mouse. But that doesn’t happen in real life does it. Imagine if you had background music in your life, you could immediately find out that something bad was going to happen, or something climatic was going to happen. You can find out when your jokes fell flat; and know when you say something you should not have said to your girlfriend. Yes I know background music is the best.

5. Lightning Fast

Fast Traveling in Real Life
Fast Traveling in Real Life

Everyone and their grandparents hate traveling; especially during the festivals. All the lazy people will want at least this one in their life. Fast Travel. Yup, we use these recklessly in sprawling open-world games. Had it been in real life most of the people would have used it from the comfort of their homes. People would parcel themselves with a surprise gift in hand. We could even go places from places unlocking new fast travel stations. And it could be beneficial for the sick and the old as well. Looks like lazy people do make the world better as Bill Gates had said “I would rather hire a lazy person than a hard working person, because the lazy person will find a way on how to get the work done with least effort”. Well where is my Fast Travel portal, lazy ass Gates?

6. Adrenaline

UnlimitedStamina
Only if Life had a ALT key

We all love sports, but no one can play any sport for a whole day, which makes us think, how can these characters keep running continuously without so much as food or drinks and with a wee bit of rest. Well it’d be awesome to have huge amounts of stamina, and maybe this could help save earth from global warming.  Then again, we could use such stamina to win marathons, cross country races and what not. Maybe it will make such races irrelevant, also cars and planes. Why ride, when you can just run to your destination. But seriously infinite stamina for the win.

7. Back From The Dead

Looks Legit
Looks Legit

In everyday lives, we get hurt, sick and tired, but in games we just loose our health which in most cases is easily restored (The only exception being games like Dark Souls). The most apt example for this is FarCry 2. We could heal ourselves just by bandaging or by removing a bullet or another one of the 10 other activities. We didn’t mention injections because in real life most of us scream when the doctor is about to apply the injection. Or like in Call of Duty, we don’t even do that, we have automatic regeneration as if we are superheroes. If we had a fever we could just lie on the couch and wait for some time till the fever passed. Which is exactly how COD and Destiny treat near fatal injuries.

8. Experience Point

Next its time to level up some Flirting
Next its time to level up some Flirting

There is a saying, “Practice makes perfect”. It doesn’t seem more true than in video games. But unlike in a game, I can never know, exactly how good I am. What if we had an Overall rating. What if we gained Exp points every time we did something. What if all our qualities were bundled into a chart of stats and numbers; which we could improve just by practicing that particular craft. Bye Bye natural selection, and Viva La Equality.

What do you think of our list? Anymore powers/abilities that should be true in real life. Let us know in the comments.
