After a long string of rumors, Nintendo has announced the Super NES Classic, which is a mini-SNES with some of the best SNES games built into the memory and allows players to play these retro classics in HD (just like the NES Mini which Nintendo launched in November of last year).
It includes 21 games:
- Contra III: The Alien Wars
- Donkey Kong Country
- EarthBound
- Final Fantasy III
- F-ZERO
- Kirby Super Star
- Kirby’s Dream Course
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Mega Man X
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox
- Star Fox 2
- Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
- Super Castlevania IV
- Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- Super Mario World
- Super Metroid
- Super Punch-Out!!
- Yoshi’s Island
Star Fox 2 was a surprising addition, seeing that it was cancelled for the SNES. The system launches on September 29th for $80 and will also include an extra controller. The SNES library is fantastic, so no doubt this will sell like hotcakes.
Let’s just hope Nintendo adds more games in the future (Chrono Trigger, an SNES essential, is missing from the list sadly) is able to satisfy consumer demand for the system (since the NES Classic suffered from a severe shortage of stock).
