Dark Light

Star Citizen.

Many of you may have heard of this game and the PC gamers are in a state of shock (Happily and sadly as well). First let’s talk why the PC gamers are happy. This is the first time that a game is being developed for PC exclusively on such a huge scale and is looking awesome.

The sad part is that the minimum requirements are astonishingly high. But right now no one is even tattering an eye towards its negatives. In what seems to be the next graphical leap Star Citizen is definitely going to compete with Destiny and supposedly has a better storyline. But we will talk about these later. Today we are here to shed light on Roberts Space Industries effort to keep Star Citizen a PC exclusive. Christopher Roberts of RSI was recently quoted in an interview defending and assuring PC gamers worldwide.

According to Christopher Roberts of RSI,

“While some could view the 1+1 = 256 logic that it required to come to the conclusion that we were ditching the PC for PS4 as an overreaction it does show how passionate everyone is in this community about the PC as the best gaming platform, which warms my heart!

So let me say this.

Star Citizen IS a PC game. It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform. We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and technology just because they will only run on some hardware configurations.

As far as consoles go Star Citizen will never be on the PS3 or Xbox 360. As for the next gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, we have NO CURRENT PLANS, but my stance remains open and is consistent with the many interviews I’ve given –

IF the platform holders (Sony & Microsoft) allow us to update the code and data without restrictions and odious time consuming QC procedures, IF they allow our community to openly interact with each other across platforms then I would CONSIDER supporting them.”

It has to be noted that Star Citizen would not be easy to port to consoles. We state this because a minimum of Nvidia GTX 680 is required to run the game. And the current gen consoles are just able to manage games like The Witcher 3. And RSI will not go ahead and invest money in a separate team for console ports. So we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Star citizen happens to be the 2nd big name in the recent times to be announced as a PC exclusive. While XCOM decided to stay on PC since the gameplay suits the PC setup, Star Citizen seems hell bent on ripping high end rigs and making them look like a bunch of wanna be gaming rigs. This game makes me think of all the Crysis hype that went around. I love it. What about you.
