The final regular season tournament of the Overwatch League’s 2020 season is complete, with the San Francisco Shock winning the North America tournament and the Shanghai Dragons recapturing the Asian title. Shanghai’s win earns the Dragons the top overall seed in the Asia bracket for the 2020 postseason.
San Francisco won a back-and-forth series over the Philadelphia Fusion – runners-up in the Summer Showdown tournament – to capture the Countdown Cup title in North America. The team also won the May Melee tournament earlier this season. The Shock and Fusion’s performance in the next two weeks will determine which gets the No. 1 North America seed in the 2020 postseason.
Early Sunday morning, the Shanghai Dragons recovered from their defeat in July’s Summer Showdown tourney to once again come out on top of the Asia region in the Countdown Cup. Behind the play of MVP candidates Byung-Sun “Fleta” Kim and Jun-Woo “Void” Kang, the first-seeded Dragons rolled through the New York Excelsior 3-0 in the semifinals before dispatching the upstart Hangzhou Spark 4-0 in the finals. The Dragons will be the No. 1 seed in the Asia bracket of the 2020 playoffs, and like the Shock, won the May Melee tournament.
