Dark Light

We are all excited for a new Fable game. Last time I played any Fable game was when I was forced to ascend the throne in Albion and protect the world from monsters who intend to destroy it in a Industrial Era-meets-magic setting. Before that I had played through the ascension of a child whose parents were killed off by bandits. The games were pretty intense, though the lack of sequels wasn’t particularly good for the franchise. With Microsoft renewing their focus, Fable IV might see a release date sooner or later. But for now, we have some details from a post on a subreddit which talks about the features of the “upcoming Fable game”.

Leaked online by a Redditor, the post mentions a few of the game’s features. The game apparently has an in-depth character creator, and allows the player to switch between first person and third person cameras. The game is open-ended, and is open throughout – allowing players to explore as they wish. Players can ignore the main quest and even help in building up towns, which forms a major part of the game. The game changes the setting and does away with guns, which was probably expected since Fable III’s theme of guns and magic was slightly conflicting by nature (and gamers were quick to point it out to Lionhead Studios too!) The game features a multiplayer mode, which is slightly unlikely, since none of the other games had it (not sure if “coop” is being talked about here). Fable IV is also rumored to run on the Unreal Engine.

Albion and Aurora are destroyed, described as “lands reduced to fables”. A asteroid strikes the planet as wished by a mad king who resurrected the Spire. The mad king’s last wish is for another asteroid to strike the planet again, in the future. The game also brings back Theresa, the Hero’s sister from the first game, and the Heroes Guild, who apparently are on another planet, sealed behind a Demon Door. The story will also bring back Jack of Blades, the main antagonist of the first game. The plot involves some heavy topsy-turvy time travel to prevent the destruction of the planet. I wanted to see a video of some sort justifying these “leaks”, but the Redditor who posted the details (and a video along with it) had either deleted his post, or deleted his account.

As usual, take these rumors with a pinch of salt till an official confirmation comes along. Microsoft does have a lot of announcements to make this E3, and Fable 4 might (or might not) be a part of it.
