Niantic Labs (in association with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company) released an augmented reality game – Pokémon GO – in Australia and New Zealand. And in just two weeks, it became an immensely hit mobile app sensation. It left us astounded when it surpassed engagement time of users on Twitter and Snapchat.
Pokémon GO established all this and more even with its partial release. The game is not yet available in Japan, one of top three mobile gaming market, and other Asian countries including India.
But that doesn’t stop it to generated over $35 million in revenue from 30 million users worldwide, according to intelligence firm Sensor Tower.
Niantic only released the game in the U.S, New Zealand, Australia and in some major countries of European region. While it’s still not available in key Asian markets.
Japan is one of the top-three mobile-gaming countries in terms of in-game purchases and has the highest average revenue per mobile gamer in the world. A release of the same in Japan could lead to Niantic’s golden days with significantly higher revenue.
As of now, it’s still not available in Japan and other Asian markets. But the team is slowly rolling out the game in other territories and adding new members in their list.
