Dark Light

Ever wondered how older games (especially ones from the 90’s which we all grew up with?). NVIDIA is making that happen. Quake II is getting an official remake, with new models, new lighting – a complete graphical remake of the game. The most important inclusion is ray-tracing – a word people have become quite familiar with since the launch of the RTX graphics cards.

Anyone wanting to see Quake 2 in its full glory can get a demo of 3 levels from the official NVIDIA web site. People who want the full campaign and multiplayer support with ray tracing can get the game from the Steam store. The official modification for the game comes out on June 6. The demo can be downloaded from the official NVIDIA website after June 6. Moreover the code will be made open source, so that anyone who wishes to contribute can check up on the official Github page for the same.

There’s one slight catch – players wishing to check out the modification need to have a RTX graphics card. While GTX graphics cards do have the capability of carrying out ray tracing now, there’s a huge difference in the performance with ray tracing on between an RTX GPU and its equivalent GTX GPU.
