If you were going to make a new Biomutant gameplay trailer, what would you show? Impressive cities and vast landscapes? Action-packed combat, true martial arts masters showing off their skills or an outpost being conquered? Wild, exotic and fluffy creatures, plus majestic, towering bosses who test your limits? Crazy mutations and abilities on the Hero? A submarine, an airship a combat mech and some mounts for the hero to ride on? Or just So. Many. Weapons?
Well, developer Experiment 101 decided to show all of that and much more in the new Biomutant gameplay trailer. So grab your favorite drink, find a cozy spot, and enjoy this 9 minute long Biomutant expedition.
The trailer was showcased at the IGN Summer Of Gaming 2020 event. Creative Director at Experiment 101, Stefan Ljungqvist walked viewers through the gameplay elements, combat mechanics and traversal options in the game.
Biomutant is an open world, post-apocalyptic RPG with a deep Wushu martial-arts inspired combat system that involves melee, shooting and powerful mutant abilities. Exposure to bio-contamination will lead to physical mutations, while radioactivity will grant you psionic powers.
Character customization allows you to craft your own from six types of DNA from the different tribes. You can equip your character with weapons that you create – ranging from melee weapons like katana, nunchucks, shruikens to modern customizable guns with multiple modifiers and variable damage stats. All these will be important in fighting and defeating the dangerous enemies and towering bosses!
The colourful and vibrant open world is huge – 8 square kilometers. To move across this vast wilderness, you can go on foot, have punk-horse or moose styled mounts, use jet-skis, air-balloons, bionic wings, a jump pack, squid-styled submarines, heavy mechs and even a weird steampunk-ish wind-up palm (you have to see it to believe it)!
The world has quite a few biomes – and you need specialized gear to be in them. A gas mask and oxygen tank is absolutely necessary for exploring the Dead Zones, while clothes with thermal resistance are a must-have for cryonic areas.
The most mysterious part of the game is, of course, the story. A plague has ruined the land and the Tree Of Life is bleeding from its roots. Who are you? What happened here? Will you be the saviour or lead this world in turmoil to a fate far worse?
The game is at the final phase of development and currently being polished – although no release date was revealed, we are pretty confident it wouldn’t be a long wait! Biomutant will be coming to PC, Xbox One and PS4.
