Piranha Games has decided to delay the 10th December 2020 launch of MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries to Spring 2021 since Cyberpunk 2077 will be launching that day. This is the fourth game, after Everspace 2, Medium and Path of Exile‘s end-game expansion, to postpone their launch after Cyberpunk 2077 moved their release date from November 19. In a special announcement on their website, the team said “Any developer wants their titles to get as much attention as possible, and obviously sharing a release date with Cyberpunk was less than optimal. Day one sales and marketing are so important to a successful product launch, and we believe that rescheduling our release date will allow MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries to have the opportunity and attention it deserves.“
MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries is a mecha game in the Battletech universe. The game launched on Epic in December 2019 and Microsoft Store (along with the Xbox Game Pass) in May 2020 – the Steam and GOG launch was supposed to happen in December with their new upcoming DLC Heroes of the Inner Sphere. Piranha will be utilizing this delay as an opportunity to launch the game simultaneously on Steam, GOG and the Xbox (One, Series X, Series S) platform. This will provide Piranha Games the extra time to add improvements, QoL features to the AI, UI, art, customisation and content to the base game and DLC.
