Initially planned to be released on August 28, 2020, Mafia: Definitive Edition is now delayed until September 25, 2020.
According to a combined message released by Hangar 13, the studio behind the remake, and publisher 2k Games, the game is being delayed because of the challenges faced by the studios due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means the work that the studio wanted to put in the game, isn’t complete as per expectations due to the current situation.
The complete statement can be found below:
But the good news for the fans eagerly waiting for the game to come out is that the gameplay trailer will be revealed on 22nd July and a 15-second teaser has already been put up on their twitter handle. The original Mafia is an acclaimed classic game of its time and Hangar 13 is working hard on this remake. Delays might be painful for the fans but it will benefit the game since more work can be put into it.
The game launches September 25 as a comprehensive, built-from-the-ground-up remake of the original Mafia, complete with an updated script filled with rich new dialogue, expanded backstories, and additional cutscenes, all-new gameplay sequences and features, and the same game engine that powered Mafia III’s best-in-class cinematics along with several other enhancements. It’s the Mafia that players remember, only much more.
The remake is part of the Mafia: Trilogy, which also includes:
- Mafia II: Definitive Edition – The ultra HD remaster of the fan favorite sequel.
- Mafia III: Definitive Edition – The re-introduction of the award-winning narrative masterpiece.
Players who purchase Mafia: Trilogy digitally, prior to September 25, will be able to access Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition immediately on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. The games are also available for purchase individually.
