Valve’s co-op classic Left 4 Dead 2 is getting a community update 11 years down the line. Valve is officially working with major Left 4 Dead 2 modders to bring this update called The Last Stand. As stated in their official blog post:
It has been many years since the infection first hit. Radio silence, no sign of life, nothing but lingering hopes… CEDA is not going to save us. But there is hope! A few brave souls have continued the fight against all odds, and soon we can all benefit from their resilience.
“The Last Stand” is an update for Left 4 Dead 2, created by the community, for the community. Additional details will be coming soon.
Until then, check out the teaser trailer and prepare to make your Last Stand.
After the runaway success of Half Life: Alyx, Valve seems to have shaken off its reluctance to ship games and content. The Last Stand was a survival mode campaign in the original Left 4 Dead and the only map not ported to the sequel. Back in 2011, the development team had expressed their interest regarding it. The campaign seems to be coming to Left 4 Dead 2 with more added features this time around.
@GlenPD92 No. We wanted to do something else for co-op players. It is what LS was originally intended to do.

What made Valve suddenly come out of their slumber and do something like this? Such community updates were a common practice for Valve’s Team Fortress 2, but that game hasn’t been updated in a long while. Is Valve trying to judge the waters for the return of the Left 4 Dead series? Check out our July report on Valve’s canceled games through the years where we came to know about the shelved Left 4 Dead 3. The update has not been dated yet, but they promise that is coming quite soon!
In other news, did you know that the original Left 4 Dead dev team that was Valve South, which is now the independent Turtle Rock Studios, is also returning to the zombie co-op FPS genre? Their upcoming game called Back 4 Blood is going to be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. There is no release date yet, and also no sign of a trailer, but we are excited about it just because of their pedigree! Here is some concept art for you:
