Dark Light

Another month has come and gone in the blink of an eye, leaving me, as always, deliberating on the inherently tragic nature of time and mortality. Anyway, here are some great games to sit back and enjoy for free if you’re an Xbox Live Gold member:

  1. Destroy All Humans!: Available June 1 to 15 on Xbox One & Xbox 360
  2. Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse: Available June 1 to 30 on Xbox One
  3. Sine Mora: Available June 16 to 30 on Xbox One & Xbox 360
  4. Coffee Talk: Available June 16 to July 15 on Xbox One

Also, No Man’s Sky has been announced to be added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog sometime in June, so look out for that if you’re interested.
While none of them are triple-A games, it’s still a great collection of fun games. If you’re unfamiliar with them, here’s what you need to know:

Destroy All Humans!
Developer: Pandemic Studios | Publisher: THQ
First released back in 2005, Destroy All Humans! is an open-world action-adventure game that parodies Cold War-era alien invasion films. A part of the Cryptosporidium 137 armada, you’re a part of the alien invaders and your objective is to take over all of humanity using a variety of fun alien weaponry.
A full remake of this game is scheduled to come out in July so this is a good chance to check out the original pre-remake version before it becomes obsolete.

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse
Developer: WayForward Technologies | Publisher: Rising Star Games, Oizumi Amuzio Inc.
Originally developed for the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U in 2014, this game has since been ported to every major console and even the Amazon Fire TV.
Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is a platformer-Metroidvania in which you take on the role of the titular half-genie Shantae. It is the third game in the long-running franchise, which released it’s most recent installment Shantae and the Seven Sirens just last year and was ported to Windows, PS4, and Xbox One just last week.

Sine Mora
Developer: Digital Reality | Publisher: HandyGames
Sine Mora is a super fun horizontal shoot ‘em up, which at times feels more like a bullet-hell game with how intense it can get. Rather than the traditional health status bar, this old school style shoot ‘em up sets itself apart by focusing on massive destruction and time manipulation.

Coffee Talk
Developer & Publisher: Toge Productions
Coffee Talk is a coffee brewing and heart-to-heart talking simulator about listening to fantasy-inspired modern peoples’ problems and helping them by serving up a warm drink or two. From the trailer, this seems like a casual, super chill and relaxing game, with soothing lo-fi music. Perfect to unwind after a long day.

So those are the games you have on offer. Not a bad selection by any means, there’s something to play whether you’re looking to chill or you’re looking for a fun challenge. Let us know what you think of the selection in the comments below.
