This week’s free games are now up for grab on the fan–favourite platform, *cough* Epic Games Store! This time, as previously reported, they’re giving away not one, but two games. One of them being merely 8 months old. All previous free games were pretty older as compared to this so this is certainly a surprise, and a good one at that. Seems like Epic is set to fix their reputation in the market as soon as possible with regular updates, the most recent one bringing a highly requested feature, Cloud Saves.
Coming to the games, the first one is Heart Machine’s beautiful 16-bit RPG, Hyper Light Drifter. Released in 2016 on all major platforms including the Switch and iOS, this indie title pays homage to 8-bit and 16-bit games, and is best described as a combination of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Diablo. Get the game for free here.
The second free game, coming from developer The Bearded Ladies, is a turn-based tactical RPG with… talking ducks and pigs. Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is combines the turn-based combat of XCOM with story, exploration, stealth, and strategy. The game being released in December, 2018 is merely 8 months old, and it’s already here for free. It has a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, and a hefty $35 price tag. It being free, and so soon, is a big deal in itself. Grab it on EGS here.
Both these games are available for totally free till 22 August. All it needs is a free Epic Games account, so you have a week’s time to redeem these. And don’t worry even if you’re busy this week as these games will stay in your library forever once added to your account. Next week EGS will be back with yet another great indie title, Fez.
