Nintendo is launching its paid online service next week, but users who aren’t willing to shell out money have some good news.
Nintendo stated in their official FAQs: “Beginning September 18, 2018, a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to participate in co-op and competitive online features for many first- and third-party Nintendo Switch games, including Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,” but, there is a special note for Fortnite.
“Some games, such as Fortnite, can be played online without a Nintendo Switch membership,” Nintendo further added.
The decision by Nintendo very much makes sense since Fortnite is a free to play, and it doesn’t require PS Plus subscription on the PS4 as well. While users will still have to pay for online services for some games, it seems like Fortnite will be exempt from the rules.
