Square-Enix Showcases Final Fantasy VII Remake at TGS 2019.
At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Square-Enix showcased their highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake. Debuting with an all-new trailer, the latest title in the Final Fantasy series featured a new take on old sequences from the original PlayStation classic!
New and Old
Right off the bat, Final Fantasy VII Remake features full voice acting. Coupled with the gorgeously animated visuals, this version of the title breathes life into Final Fantasy VII like never before. Or rather, perhaps for the first time since Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the movie sequel to the classic JRPG. Unlike Advent Children, however, you get to play this title.
Featuring sequences in Midgar, you’ll watch Cloud ride a bike, fight enemies, and meet Aerith for the first time. Animated sequences feature full fight scenes featuring The Turks. Join the fight against them as well as other figures from the villainous Shinra Corporation.
In addition, you’ll encounter new sequences, such as being chased down by another SOLDIER. The trailer seamlessly blends the new take on an old classic while introducing new scenes. Square-Enix’s use of cutscenes features breathtaking images that capture the spirit of the original game.
Gameplay
Unlike the original title, this remake is an Action/RPG. That is to say you will be fighting in real-time instead of classic turn-based. This style of fighting falls more in line with Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Or for a more familiar take, think Kingdom Hearts without the jumping action. This means hacking-and-slashing and positioning will prove integral towards battling your enemies.
Another feature showcases the return of mini-games. One of these is the Squats mini-game, featured early in Midgar in Disc 1 of the original game. However, it comes with a new take. Rather than simply touching the button, the new interface has you pressing them in order. This new mini-game take is also featured with Tifa doing pull-ups!
