The reactive turn-based RPG from French studio Sandfall Interactive, Expedition 33, has claimed Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025 in Los Angeles. This milestone is a landmark achievement not only for the developers but also for the worldwide community that has supported the game since its launch. To celebrate, Sandfall Interactive, in partnership with publisher Kepler Interactive, has released a major free update introducing new content, features, and surprises for players everywhere.

The update is now rolling out across all platforms and regions, bringing a range of enhancements that deepen the game world, expand gameplay possibilities, and improve the overall experience. Highlights of the New Update

• New Playable Area: “Verso’s Drafts”
Players can now explore Verso’s Drafts, a storybook-inspired environment connected to a young Verso’s past. This whimsical world introduces festive Gestrals, stunning new locations, hidden secrets, and a mysterious, powerful presence lurking beneath the surface. The addition enriches the game’s narrative depth while offering fresh exploration opportunities.

• Expanded Soundtrack
Award-winning composer Lorien Testard contributes new tracks to enhance the atmosphere of the update. These pieces, part of the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 soundtrack, are now available on digital streaming platforms. Fans can access the playlist on YouTube to experience the new music.

• Challenging Boss Battles
Late-game players can face off against powerful new bosses in the Endless Tower. Victories award unique Pictos, exclusive costumes, and upgraded gear, offering additional challenges for seasoned players.

• Official Photo Mode
Responding to community requests, the update adds a Photo Mode that allows players to pause the action, frame cinematic shots, and capture memorable moments. This feature highlights the game’s detailed art and emotional story moments.

• Expanded Language Support
The update introduces new localizations in Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian. This brings the total supported languages to 19, making the game more accessible to players worldwide.

• Technical Enhancements
FSR 4 support has been added, including AMD temporal upscaling and frame generation for sharper visuals and smoother gameplay. Additional Quality of Life improvements and optimizations enhance performance across consoles, PCs, and handheld systems.

Alongside its Game of the Year honor, the RPG also earned accolades for Best Game Direction and Best Narrative, and received a record 12 total nominations—the highest at the show. Since its launch in April, the game has sold over 5 million copies, earning praise for its stunning visuals, emotional storytelling, and innovative combat. It has inspired fans worldwide, including artists and cosplayers, expanding its cultural impact.
