Doom’s Player Base More Than Triples On Steam (Probably) Due To Recent Announcements

Diablo 3 Rise Of The Necromancer DLC Review :: (PS4) Noobreview :: Till Death Do Us Part

Dark Light

In the past few days, a few announcements regarding Doom have shot it’s popularity up a few notches. The first news came in the form of the latest update making all the DLC free to all owners of the game and then came the Free Weekend where people could test out the game. All of this has increased the playerbase of Doom dramatically.

I still don’t get why Bethesda segregated the multiplayer modes/features behind DLC paywalls. Doom is not CoD and it has been revived after about 13 years. Add to that, the fact that Doom 3 left a sour taste in gamers’ mouths and the last thing any company would want is to put consumers off from the get go with anti consumer policies. (Wait it was 2016, anti-consumer? Who cares? Right?)

The 24 hour peak in most of the weeks preceding all these announcements hovered around 2k. Today, 2 days after the sale has ended, the 24 hour peak is 9337. This is obviously great for the players because in spite of having a stellar campaign, Doom is a short linear campaign which makes multiplayer the key attraction here.

Personally, it also gives me a reason to go back since I had bought the base game because when I tried to play multiplayer, it took about 3 minutes to find just one player. How many of you are going to jump back in for the mutiplayer modes?

  1. I started playing MP weeks before the 6.66 update, and am so glad I didn’t buy the DLC…

The move is a welcome one, and I’m glad people are picking this title back up. The MP is excellent for a quick romp. I love the omission of sprinting and reloading.

    1. I also played tried playing MP before this update and I guess due to the region wasn’t able to get even 4 players into a game without waiting a ton.

The MP for this game is awesome. I was thoroughly surprised and have already poured 7 hours in 2 days. Team deathmatch has never been this fun for more than a decade now.
