After being the most successful game in Ubisoft’s 30-year history, by selling most number of copies on day-one, The Division continues its domination over sales chart and breaks Destiny’s record for the highest sales for a new IP. Though it defeated Destiny in terms of dollars, its still unknown if it has managed the number of copies as sold by Destiny.
During the first five days of release, the estimated worldwide revenue of The Division exceeded $330 million, Ubisoft announced. Whereas Activision’s Destiny, which was launched in September 2014, reportedly has sales of $325 million from its initial five days of release.
“The Division taking the top spot in the industry for first week sales of a new franchise is a tremendous achievement,” said Yves Guillemot, CEO and co founder of Ubisoft, in a press release. “We are very proud of our teams, and humbled by and thankful for the millions of players who are giving us their feedback and support.”
The Division is one of the top four launches of new brands in gaming history, sharing spot with other three being Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs and Activision’s Destiny, said Ubisoft. However, the publisher still didn’t reveal genuine sales figure for the game.
The Division is available now to buy for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
