French developer Cyanide Studio is all set to solve the issue of the lack of games based on the work of H.P Lovecraft, with their upcoming horror game, Call of Cthulhu. The psychologically haunting adventure will take the player in a bone-chilling adventure in an isolated island that will question their sanity and resolve.

There has been some speculation among the gaming press regarding the level design of Call of Cthulhu. Rumours had it that Call of Cthulhu would feature a semi-open world structure. But in an interview with Gaming Bolt, Diane Quenet, the Project Manager and Romain Wiart, the Lead Level Designer of Call of Cthulhu has confirmed that the game will be a linear experience.

“This [Call of Cthulhu] is not a semi-open world, this is a linear story: You go from one chapter to the other. Each chapter is feels different in a different area. Inside some chapters, you have the freedom to choose multiple paths to get to your goal. This will be based on your choices, and your skills [such as if you’re good at lock picking, stuff like that]. It’s mostly about giving a different flavor for each chapter,” said the developers.

The interview also shed some light on the emphasis on stealth and keeping the players’ sanity in check.

Call of Cthulhu will release on 30 October, 2018 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
