Well, well, well. Imagine our surprise. Valve’s behemoth of an online FPS, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive received a Battle Royale mode update called Danger Zone and has gone free to play.

Players who purchased the game prior to CS:GO going free-to-play will receive a “commemorative Loyalty Badge” and have their accounts upgraded to Prime status meaning  those players will be matched with other Prime status players, and they’ll also receive access to a souvenir MP5-SD, the submachine gun as well as other Prime-exclusive drops. Free-to-play CS:GO players can also upgrade their accounts to Prime for $14.99/₹ 1,049.

According to Valve, “Danger Zone is a fast-paced battle royale game mode built on CS:GO’s tactical gameplay where players use their wits, skill, and resources to fight to the finish.”

Danger Zone will drop 18 players onto a map known as Blacksite, where they’ll search for guns, equipment and money, while also watching for package deliveries dropped in by drone. Players can take on contracts to take down targets, rescue hostages for extra cash and blow up safes to earn money. Players also have access to an in-game tablet that will alert them to drone deliveries and enemy positions. Every match features a set of pistols, rifles, SMGs and heavy weapons from CS:GO’s classic arsenal. Play Danger Zone solo, or grab a friend (or two) then hunt or be hunted as a team.
