Dark Light

So we touched down at Mumbai on a bright Sunday morning with the intent to cover the latest Comic Con in the city. The event was loaded with people of all kinds this year, and it made us realize that India does have some serious crowd problems. We saw it at the IGX, and the uncontrolled mass of mankind was on full display here as well.

Most of the stalls this time around had people selling merchandise and stuff, which was a bit sad (something that was discussed in detailed in a piece by IGN India). Still it was one of the most exciting days of the year. Including some Great Cosplays, some of the Excellent Home made video games and even some Face Painting Stalls.

Since its a gaming website, lets talk about the games there first. One of the 2 games that caught our eye in Mumbai Comic Con 2015; was and UN-named game made by YetiTech Studios in a very small time span. An FPS with with no technicality and no complications. Just low gravity, some jump pads and a host of guns. Playing it was simply joyful. One of the few games in recent memory that we had fun playing. The proof of its postive imapct can be gauged by the fact that people were lining up outside the stall for their 4th and 5th serving. The reason they let the game go unnamed was because they had taken  models from some other place. But for all those fans of the game out there, don’t worry, they are planning to make another game with original art and better gameplay. So let’s watch out for that.

The other game that we saw was named Turbulent Showdown, which was made as a project by DSK College students. The game had only one level and hence the style of gameplay remained sort of limited, though fun. It had one basic aim, to beat up your opponent, and has very few controls. There was no intention of releasing the game on Steam any time soon, because then they would have to add levels. Also the thought of going through documents for releasing a game on Steam was not appealing to them. But we wouldn’t be surprised to see it on Steam by next year if they are willing to go the distance.

Apar Games and Vanishing Point studios were also present at the Comic Con and you would know them from Scribbled Arena and Third Eye respectively. Games which we had covered during our time at IGX earlier.

Coming to comic section of Comic Con, we saw a lot of cosplayers, Duh!!. Some of them were pretty good, some of them were decent and some of them were pretty much recognizable. Some of the best cosplay were that of The Amazing Spider-man, Itachi Uchiha (We don’t know the name, but we can say for sure that she was the only one wearing ‘real’ Sharingans), and Wonder Woman by Ricksha Wali (Definitely check out her channel on YouTube, www.youtube.com/rickshawali) among others. The Joker was by far the most popular choice of cosplay as we saw various people in various incarnations of the character. Even the notorious Team Rocket from Pokemon made an appearance. Graphic Pop also had a stall and were holding quiz contests, the prizes of which were T-Shirts, mugs etc. Face painting was another attraction for those people looking for  a makeover. For people who had ‘Yummy Tummy’ problems, they had the option to try out a variety of edibles. For people trying to get their hands on some witty T-Shirts, some cool bobble-heads, or just plain old comic books (obscure mangas included), Mumbai Comic Con had them covered.

There was the mandatory Cosplay competition but we didn’t last the entire event so we missed out on the results. It was an exhausting day, but we had fun roaming aorund in that crowd, running into some minor celebrities, and some excellent costumes. For everything that has been wrong with such events in India, Comic Con is still the best place to find out that you are not alone. There are people more nerdier and at-least as geeky as you.
