Dark Light

Crunch Moonkiss Studios, the solo dev who’s toiling away on Groove Defense, has announced that while the game is still far away, there is a brand-new demo you can check out on Steam. Groove Defense is a tower defense game where towers are instruments: placement, upgrades, and routing dynamically build the soundtrack as you play. Strategy decisions directly affect rhythm, layering, and intensity. Groove Defense will also be featured in the upcoming Steam Tower Defense Fest (March 9-16)

The current Steam demo includes four levels, each built around a different musical genre: Synthwave, Slasher Flick, 2010s Pop, and 80s. There’s also a bonus Rhythm Remix mode (VSMR) that lets players interact directly with the game’s soundtrack outside of traditional TD play.

Watch the gameplay trailer for Groove Defense below:

Every tower adds a part to the track. The more you expand your defense, the more the song fills out. By later waves, what you’re hearing is a result of the choices you made early on.

Enemies move with the tempo and attacks land in time, but the focus is still on strategy. Where you place towers, how you upgrade them, and how you handle pressure across lanes is what keeps you alive.

The Soundcheck Demo includes four stages built around different styles: SynthwaveSlasher Flick2010s Pop, and 80s-inspired synth. More are planned for full release.

There’s a campaign called Tour Mode, a Free Play option for experimenting with builds, and a separate Rhythm Remix mode that turns your run’s music into a Guitar Hero-style challenge.

Groove Defense is currently in development for PC.
